wow...livejournal...hey. i can't believe i neglected this thing for over half a year. how embarrassing.
anyway. everything turned out fine at my appointment. my hormones just go crazy every month...which could explain some things. :) but then again...what wouldn't hormones be the answer for? ladies, mammograms really aren't bad at all...either that or my technician took it really easy on me. and i was most definitely the youngest girl in the "building o' boobs," so that was interesting. did you know that they do a sonogram before your mammogram now? it's pretty weird seeing the inside of your tah-tah's through a monitor that usually looks for babies. and why is it that EVERY doctor always has freezing hands?! i mean come on...
i am now employed for what is affectionately known as the nordstrom of yearbooks.
i started monday and have been training to be a graphics operator ever since...it's easy so far, but don't ask me to explain what we do b/c if you're not down with the lingo of page preparation...you're probably going to be lost, haha. but i am enjoying the working life so far...the people are nice and it's definitely awesome to be able to get paid on a regular basis now. i work with kids i went to winthrop with, and nikki, boy aaron, and i carpool everyday...AND i get health insurance after 90 days. *does a little dance*
OH YEAH! kari finally cut my hair and it's aaawesome! she is amazing and i will love her forever and ever. the end.
i just got back from my week's visit with allie out in the desert of california. it was beautiful and i loved it. i really needed to get away from south carolina for a while, and this trip was just the medicine i needed.
a bit of time has passed since and i'm doing better, thanks.
things in life are looking up and so am i. most exciting would be that i'm going to california in a couple weeks to visit allie. it's been a long time coming, last time i saw her was her wedding in december. i had to get out of this place somehow...i can't think of a better way to go about it.
so technically i probably can't and shouldn't post any of my work for patriotville b/c the movie isn't out and it belongs to them and whatnot...but i can show the wrap party flyer that i made b/c it was all for fun. and just so no one gets confused, i took out the wording. now it's like a fun game of fill in the word bubble.
my last day at patriotville was saturday...i cannot put to words how sad i truly am about my three weeks ending. it really was the best and, hands down, the most fun i've ever had. what an amazing experience. i'd love to move on to other films in the area...and there are a few...so i need to get aggresive and call them up. i've already sent out a couple resumes...here's hoping.
while out having a couple drinks with our production and art directors, larn and i were offered some contacts in nyc. ever since talking to shane about life in general, his advice to get out into the world and enjoy it has seriously been resonating in my skull for the past few days. i really do need to get out of rock hill. i've realized there is nothing here for me career-wise. shane's potential contact and words about big cities keep looking more and more tempting. these ideas may just be pipe dreams for the moment...and no action may come of this until several months, but they are definitely strong.
larn and j are in the movie. like they have parts...you will not miss them. this is nuts. larn makes out with keir o'donnell tomorrooooow.
also, working outside on set is soooo freaking hot! i don't know how the actors weren't nasty and red-faced b/c i know i was. and to make matters worse, everyone has to point it out to me.
"you've got a red face." "i know...but it's b/c i'm hot. i'm not burned." "awww..."
i used to haaaate that about my face when i was little. especially b/c a ring around my mouth stays white so i look super clown-like ridiculous. this is why i ran away when justin long walked towards my direction.
yeah....working for "patriotville" is pretty much amazingly great. yes, i am consistantly working on crazy random props that need to be done asap, but i really really like it. today i made two cover jackets for a book on the colonial williamsburg and i got to claim to be the author. i also had to make 6 signs for made up historical points in patriotville...a few of them are named after brooks, kevin, the art coordinator bo, seymour simmons b/c kevin and i thought it would be hilarious, and rachel. there are going to be lots of personal references in this movie...and i am sooo going to enjoy sitting in the theater seeing which of my shtuffs made it to the widescreen.
also cool: getting to work with kevin, rachel, j, and the newly added larn! hoorah!
today was crazy and full of coincidences. i read vori's journal about her encounter with justin long and other celebrities from the new movie being filmed in the area (patriotville)...and i of course started researching it. strangely enough, i found joey's gf rachel's blog about her internship at the movie...and i was like "wow how cool, rachel how did you happen to get into that b/c i'm definitely looking for new work..." then not even two hours later i got a call at work from joey letting me know that there was an opening for a graphic designer for the movie and that rachel had given them my name and i needed to get in touch with them asap.
so i did.
and now i am the new graphic designer for patriotville. but the crazy cool thing about this is that rachel didn't see my comment on her blog until AFTER i got hired. oh life, you do have a sense of humor.
but yeah...unfortunately this great and exciting event is only temporary. two weeks worth of movie life, then it's back to ro-ro's b/c i haven't gotten hired anywhere else....if he's ok with me working on the movie for two weeks. *knock on wood*
oh also! i went to the of montreal show in greenville on friday with larn and her friend josiah and sarah from schoolhouse exchange.
it was great fun and i'm super glad i went. of montreal still has a special place in my heart...even if i couldn't get away from that vision-blocking girl that kept dancing from side to side in front of me. but she and her guy friend were cute and having fun dancing like me so it didn't bug me all that much. i just wish i could have seen the band for longer than 2 second intervals.
in short...the observer job recruiter called me back this morning and told me all the resumes and such have been forwarded to the design dept so they can make a decision. so pretty much, i am helpless to make any difference in this decision. here's hoping they were impressed by my matching pink paper and homemade cd package....and for pete's sake, that the damn cd actually performs.
in other news, if you haven't seen natasha allegri's (normallife — and natazilla — ) amazingly adorable, fantastical artings, you are really missing out. her latest production can be seen here. this comic is so great....she got an invite to FLIGHT 4 from kazu. amazing. i really hope she jumps on that opportunity.
